American Waste Control is Proud to Be a Mayfest 2016 Sponsor

  • On May 17, 2016

Tulsa is known for several things and one of those is International Mayfest! It’s time for Mayfest 2016! This is the 42nd year for the Oklahoma tradition, which celebrates art, music, and culture. This year’s festivities take place from May 19th through 22nd in beautiful downtown Tulsa.

American Waste Control and Mr. Murph are proud to be sponsors of such an exciting and popular event! We will have waste and recycle cans all over the place to help reduce litter and keep our gorgeous city looking great throughout the entire festival. Look for specially wrapped cans with the AWC logo. We will also have multiple bottlers in the area, which are special containers shaped like a giant bottle that are specifically designed for recycling plastics.

Of course, what good would an outdoor event be without a place for the youngest Tulsans to have a good time? A KidZone will be setup on the southwest corner of 6th and Main. Mr. Murph will make a special appearance each afternoon, offering tons of fun activities about what can be recycled and the overall process. In addition, a special game of “recycled bowling” will take place all day in the green area on the southeast corner of the same intersection.

We greatly look forward to meeting our customers in person at this fantastic family-friendly event!

The Story of Mr. Murph

The nickname Murph comes from the name Material Recovery Facility (MRF) — what we call our new facility here at Tulsa Recycle and Transfer.

Mr. Murph was specifically designed to separate mixed recyclables, thereby reducing the impact of reusable resources from being disposed of in our landfills. We’re happy to say…he was the very first of his kind in Oklahoma.

A key part of what makes Mr. Murph so special is his automation. The recovery process starts when mixed recyclables are dumped onto a conveyor belt and then taken through a series of manual and mechanical stages that separate the recyclables. The result is a 95% recovery rate and a cleaner environment for all of us.
