- plastic bottles
Did you know there were basically two kinds of plastic beverage containers –PET bottles we use for soda and water, and thicker HDPE bottles used for juice containers and such? Recyclers value both of these since they can be made into virtually any kind of new plastic product.
What kind of products?
We’re talking containers for beverages, cooking oil, peanut butter and household cleaning products, even tennis balls…if you’re a PET bottle. Also, products you may never have thought of: Things like pharmaceuticals, the fabric in your clothes and your coat’s polyester fiberfill. In fact, recycling half a dozen pepsi two liters will give you enough polyester for a square yard of carpet!
Recycled HDPE, on the other hand, can be turned into tougher products like plastic lumber, benches and truck liners. And, you know those blue recycling bins you put out at the curb? – Yep, mostly recycled HDPE—talk about the circle of life.
