In the waste industry, being sustainable is more than an environmental gesture—it’s a necessary part of doing business and relating to the community. The competition is just too stiff for us to slack off in this area, plus to do so, would go against the grain of our business passion and mission. Let me give you […]

We currently sort and recycle about 400,000 pounds of waste in Tulsa and the surrounding area a day. That’s over 200 tons of waste material that’s diverted from area landfills (and away from our environment) through our one of a kind Mr. Murph, the most advanced and effective MRF in the state of Oklahoma. We recently had a question posed on FB if it’s better to leave aluminum cans uncrushed when disposing of them in your Mr. Murph recycling bins. We didn’t go into an in-depth answer at the time, but here’s a more thorough reply to that issue. The long and short of it is no, do NOT […]

The Story of Mr. Murph

The nickname Murph comes from the name Material Recovery Facility (MRF) — what we call our new facility here at Tulsa Recycle and Transfer.

Mr. Murph was specifically designed to separate mixed recyclables, thereby reducing the impact of reusable resources from being disposed of in our landfills. We’re happy to say…he was the very first of his kind in Oklahoma.

A key part of what makes Mr. Murph so special is his automation. The recovery process starts when mixed recyclables are dumped onto a conveyor belt and then taken through a series of manual and mechanical stages that separate the recyclables. The result is a 95% recovery rate and a cleaner environment for all of us.
