Why Does Mr. Murph ONLY Accept #1 and #2 Plastics?

  • Posted by Mr. Murph
  • On March 6, 2014
Often, we’re asked this question, and the short answer is it’s all based on the market. While Mr. Murph’s passion is to recover reusable commodities from the waste stream, as a company, we also have to pay attention to the economics of recycling: It comes down to supply and demand. #1 PET (pop & water […]

What Do I Do With Batteries?

It’s important to keep hazardous material such as normal, everyday batteries out of landfills. You can do that with a little research on what stores accept them. RadioShack and Office Depot are two that I know take reusable ones, as  does the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation. As far as car batteries go, check with retailers who […]

The Story of Mr. Murph

The nickname Murph comes from the name Material Recovery Facility (MRF) — what we call our new facility here at Tulsa Recycle and Transfer.

Mr. Murph was specifically designed to separate mixed recyclables, thereby reducing the impact of reusable resources from being disposed of in our landfills. We’re happy to say…he was the very first of his kind in Oklahoma.

A key part of what makes Mr. Murph so special is his automation. The recovery process starts when mixed recyclables are dumped onto a conveyor belt and then taken through a series of manual and mechanical stages that separate the recyclables. The result is a 95% recovery rate and a cleaner environment for all of us.
