Instead of bleach and other toxic cleaning agents, try using baking soda. Mixed with water, it’s great for cleaning grout, counters, and fixtures. Also try mixing it with vinegar for an ideal window cleaner. Mineral oil is a terrific furniture polisher and floor wax without the overpowering smell. Use garlic to get rid of mold […]

The best thing about recycling old tires is that it reduces pollution and energy consumption. That’s number one. Recyclers nationwide are finding a huge market for retread tires and even for the rubber material itself where the rubber is ground down to produce things like tire chips for an alternative fuel use. Other uses? Rubber […]

Granted, it may have all started with Marcel Duchamp’s “Fountain” back in the 20’s, but today’s trash artists are upping the ante when it comes to artistic upcycling like never before. Whereas Duchamp’s purpose was more for shock value by rendering a urinal as a work of art, upcycling involves repurposing the item itself as […]

The Story of Mr. Murph

The nickname Murph comes from the name Material Recovery Facility (MRF) — what we call our new facility here at Tulsa Recycle and Transfer.

Mr. Murph was specifically designed to separate mixed recyclables, thereby reducing the impact of reusable resources from being disposed of in our landfills. We’re happy to say…he was the very first of his kind in Oklahoma.

A key part of what makes Mr. Murph so special is his automation. The recovery process starts when mixed recyclables are dumped onto a conveyor belt and then taken through a series of manual and mechanical stages that separate the recyclables. The result is a 95% recovery rate and a cleaner environment for all of us.
